Container cargo via seaports up 18%

VTV.vn - Container cargo shipped via Vietnam’s seaports in the first eight months of 2021 witnessed a sharp increase of 18% compared to the same period last year, said the Vietnam Maritime Administration (VMA).

Specifically, the total volume of container cargo via seaports reached nearly 16.8 million TEUs in the first eight months.

Container cargo for export was over 5.4 million TEUs, up 16%, while imported container cargo surged by 21% to over 5.5 million TEUs.

Statistics by the VMA showed that several seaports saw high increases in the volume of container cargo during the January - July period, such as Quang Nam, up 115%; My Tho City (Tien Giang Province), up 41%; Hai Phong City, over 17%; and Ho Chi Minh City, nearly 16%.

Others reported decreases, such as Quang Ninh down 98%; Da Nang City, 38%, and Can Tho City, 23%.

The total volume of goods via Vietnam’s seaports reached over 480.4 million tonnes in the first eight months, up 4% year-on-year.
