Within the framework of her official visit to Vietnam, US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen attended a conference entitled “Women in Economics and Finance: Economic outlook and Climate Finance” held at Foreign Trade University, Hanoi on July 21.

Speakers participating in the conference included US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen; Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh; and Rector of Foreign Trade University Bui Anh Tuan.

The speakers affirmed that the world economy continues to face many difficulties in the post-COVID-19 period, such as persistent and high inflation, continued monetary tightening, supply chain disruptions, slowing economic growth, the risk of recession and so on.

Besides macroeconomic challenges, countries around the world also face challenges from climate change. These difficulties and challenges are negatively affecting the production and business activities of enterprises as well as the quality of life of the people.

The conference attracted the participation of more than 300 delegates including female leaders who hold important roles in the Party, National Assembly, Government, ministries/sectors, institutes/schools, international organisations, commercial banks as well as students of Foreign Trade University.

The conference affirmed the role and interest of women, the awareness and determination of the younger generation in joining hands to respond to global challenges such as climate change, towards a greener society and a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
