VTV.vn - The area of the former imperial capital city of Hue has been increased by nearly four times to 266 square kilometres following a resolution of the National Assembly.

Under the resolution, effective from July 1, the city will soon comprise of 29 wards and 7 communes, with a population of 652,572, the expanded areas being merged from parts of neighbouring Huong Thuy Town, Huong Tra Town and Phu Vang District.

Some existing wards in the old city will be combined to form new wards while some wards will be upgraded from rural communes.

The newly expanded Hue City will now border the East Sea (South China Sea), Huong Thuy Town, Huong Tra Town, Phu Vang District and Quang Dien District.

Speaking at the ceremony to announce the parliamentary resolution on June 25, Thua Thien Hue Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho said adjusting the geographical border of Hue City is an important step in realising the Politburo’s resolution on building Thua Thien Hue Province until 2030 with a vision towards 2045.

He asked the relevant agencies to take measures to prevent disruption to people and businesses during the process of adjusting the geographical borders of Hue and its neighbouring towns and districts.
