Despite his age, Thai Duy remained very lucid and witty while attending the event with his family, friends, and colleagues on August 9.
Journalist Thai Duy, whose real name is Tran Duy Tan, was born in Bac Giang Province in 1926. He also has another famous pseudonym, Tran Dinh Van, with well-known works such as ‘Song nhu anh’ (Living Like Him), ‘Nguoi tu tu kham lon’ (The Death Row Inmate), and ‘Hai Phong anh dung’ (The Heroic Hai Phong).
He started working as a reporter in 1949 and experienced three resistance wars, becoming an outstanding writer in the circle of revolutionary journalists with considerable contribution to the struggle for national liberation and renewal.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association Nguyen Duc Loi said Thai Duy was among the seven senior journalists who were honoured at the Conference commending typical journalists in 2020, which was jointly held by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.
His top work “Living Like Him” is admired and warmly received by readers and leaders, with millions of copies around the world. Living and writing like journalist Thai Duy requires a person who strives tirelessly, without faltering to “fight what is outdated and damaged to create new and fresh things” as Uncle Ho’s saying, Loi added.
A 30-minute documentary film and a display of 45 artifacts and documents about the life and press career of Thai Duy were showcased at the event.
