VTV.vn - Vietnam will play in Group I in the upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Cup, alongside the likes of Myanmar and Chinese Taipei following a draw held on August 11 in Malaysia.

Elsewhere, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) have officially withdrawn from the tournament due to COVID-19 fears, resulting in Group K having only two representatives in the form of Japan and Cambodia.

Due to this, the AFC carried out a new draw in order select one team from either Group G, H, I, or J in the East Zone to move to Group K.

The draw taking place on August 11 resulted in Hong Kong (China) leaving Group I to compete in Group K.

As a result of this, Group I now has three teams, including Vietnam, Myanmar, and Chinese Taipei.

According to the schedule moving forward, Vietnam will face hosts Chinese Taipei on October 27 in their opening match.

They will then take on Myanmar on October 31 in the final match of the group stage.

The Vietnamese U23 squad got their training camp underway on August 10 in Hanoi as they prepare for the qualifiers for the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup.

The national team do have history in the competition after finishing second at the 2018 tournament, although they were knocked out in the group stage in 2020.
