New storm heads towards Quang Ngai - Khanh Hoa coast

VTV.vn - According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, in the next 12 hours the fifth storm to affect Vietnam in the 2019 typhoon season was forecast to move west-northwest at a a speed of 15-20km per hour.

As of 7:00 pm of October 30, the eye of the storm is forecast to be about 13.6 degrees North latitude and 109.7 degrees East longitude, right on the provinces of Quang Ngai - Khanh Hoa, with strongest winds in the eye of the storm recorded at 90kph (level 11-12).

It is forecast that in the next 12 to 24 hours, the storm is likely to move west, at a pace of about 15-20km each hour, across the mainland of the provinces of Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa, and then weaken into a tropical depression.

Total rainfall of 300-400mm will blanket provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Ninh Thuan on October 30-31, Wednesday and Thursday. Heavier torrential rains, with up to 600mm, will hit the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.

Rainfall of 200-300mm was also predicted to hit provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue from October 31 until the end of November 2, while 300-500mm is expected in the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh at the same time, the centre said.

The NCHMF warned that heavy rains are likely in central provinces from November 4-5.
