The runways and taxiways were put into operation on April 25, helping to increase the transport capacity of the airport right before the April 30 holidays.
The project on upgrading the runways and taxiway at Tan Son Nhat International Airport was carried under the urgent order of the Prime Minister. The project received investment from the Ministry of Transport and was managed by the My Thuan Project Management Board.
According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the project was commenced on July 1, 2020, and included the upgrading of runways 25R/07L and 25L/07L, the building of new parallel taxiways and rapid exit taxiways, and the construction of a drainage system.
“The operation of the runways and taxiways at this time is of great importance to serving the increasing passenger demand during the upcoming holidays as well as to the reception of international tourists,” said Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board Tran Van Thi.
The operation of the runways will help raise the flight frequency to 40 flights per hour, contributing to ensuring the punctuality of flights as well as easing overload and congestion and improving the service quality, said Nguyen Minh Tuan, deputy director of the Southern Airport Authority.
