VTV.vn - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked the southern province of Tien Giang to increase the efficiency of its testing in order to separate people infected with COVID-19 from the community.

The request was made during his visit on September 17 to the Mekong Delta province to inspect its prevention and control efforts.

The Deputy PM spoke highly of the province’s efforts and recognised encouraging progress in its battle against the virus but also pointed out drawbacks in terms of personnel, equipment and screening tests.

He said Tien Giang needs to enhance its testing efficiency and learn from the lessons of the past in order to soon bring the province to a new normal and restore socio-economic development.

According to Tien Giang Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Muoi, 4 out of 11 districts and towns have undergone seven days without any new community cases.

The province currently has My Tho City, Chau Thanh District and Cho Gao District classified as high risk, with no districts denoted as very high risk.

The province is aiming to bring the outbreak under control in the next 2-4 weeks by focusing on medical care for COVID-19 patients in order to minimise deaths and step up communication so that local people will fully comply with social distancing measures.

As of September 14, Tien Giang had recorded 12,468 cases, with 311 fatalities.
