Tokyo 2020 – Day 7: Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang to feature in men’s 1,500m freestyle

VTV.vn - Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang is the only Vietnamese athlete to feature on the seventh day of Tokyo 2020 Olympics (July 30) as he is going to compete in the men’s 1500m freestyle together with 28 others.

The 2000-born athlete will swim in Heat 3 alongside opponents from Denmark, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Norway, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

The best eight among the 29 participants will progress to the final scheduled for tomorrow.

Emma McKeon can add to Australia's golden haul in a women's 100m freestyle final packed with champions and record holders at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

After smashing the Olympic record in the preliminary heats with a personal best of 52.13 seconds, McKeon starts in lane four in pursuit of her fourth medal of the Games.

Hong Kong (China)'s 200m freestyle silver medallist Siobhan Haughey could be McKeon's closest challenger, followed by Australia's former world champion and triple Olympic relay gold medallist Cate Campbell.

The field also features Canada's defending Olympic champion Penny Oleksiak, Sweden's world record holder Sarah Sjostrom and 2016 medley relay gold medallist Abbey Weitzeil of the United States.

Tennis: Men's doubles champions to be crowned

The first medals in tennis will be handed out on day 7 of the event, with the men's doubles gold-medal match taking place on Centre Court and the bronze-medal match to be played on Court 1.

Croatia is guaranteed gold and silver in the men's doubles category where Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic will face off against compatriots Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig. In the bronze-medal match, the United States’ Austin Krajicek and Tennys Sandgren will go up against the Kiwi combination of Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus.

The finals in the mixed doubles as well as the semi-finals of the men's doubles and women's singles quarterfinals will be contested today.

China is looking to regain their mixed doubles title from London 2012 with two-time and current reigning world champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong taking on compatriots Wang Yi Lyu and Huang Dong Ping in the final.

Home favourites Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino are hoping to medal at their home Olympics taking on Hong Kong (China)'s duo of Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in the bronze-medal match.
