VTV.vn - Pregnant women are prone to severe complications, even fatal ones, if they contract COVID-19 due to immunosuppression.

As such, efforts to vaccinate pregnant women kicked off today in the capital city of Hanoi, with 200 14-weeks and over pregnant women at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. No complications were recorded.

In addition to normal screening steps, the women are examined to exclude risk factors such as preeclampsia, placental abruption, and other obstetric complications.

Their blood pressure is checked and an ultrasound is performed 30 minutes after receiving the dose. According to experts, covid-19 vaccines are safe for both mother and baby. In addition, pregnant women can produce antibodies that are transmitted through the placenta that protect the baby from covid-19 infection in the first few months after birth.
