VTV.vn - A workshop entitled ‘From Farm to Table: Green and Sustainable Dragon Fruit in Binh Thuan Province’ was held at the Green One United Nations House in Hanoi on January 29.

Participants at the event reviewed the successes of the ‘Accelerating Private Sector Engagement in Climate-Resilient and Low-Emission Investment in Vietnam's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)’ project.

The project was implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in collaboration with Binh Thuan and Bac Lieu provinces from 2019 to 2023 with financial support from the governments of Germany, Spain, and the European Union.

Accordingly, over the past three years, the project has created significant achievements in transforming the supply chain of dragon fruit in Binh Thuan Province and shrimp in Bac Lieu Province, making the two localities become bright spots in the green agricultural development, thus contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

In Binh Thuan Province in particular, the project has helped to improve the livelihoods of nearly 5,000 local farmers, and introduced them to sustainable green production methods.

One of the project's most outstanding successes is the first carbon footprint traceability system for dragon fruit in Vietnam, which allows consumers to know the amount of carbon emissions in the dragon fruit production process.

Delegates at the workshop also visited sustainable dragon fruit models as well as participated in a dialogue with development partners to replicate the project's success.
