PM discusses economic growth measures with southern leaders
VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a meeting on May 30 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau with the provincial leaders of the Southern Key Economic Region (SKER) to discuss measures to boost socio-economic development.

In his opening remarks, the PM stated that Vietnam has achieved encouraging results in its prevention of the coronavirus while maintaining economic growth with a decent expansion rate of 4% in the first quarter.

Underlining the important role of the SKER, which accounted for 42% of Vietnam’s GDP, the PM asked provincial leaders to contribute their ideas so that the central government can introduce appropriate policies.

He also called for input from experts and enterprises so that the government’s policies are fact-based and relevant to the reality on the ground.

The head of government suggested that the eight provinces and cities in the SKER should strive for higher growth in order to lift overall national growth by enhancing the business environment and effectively implementing government support packages.

The PM also called for measures to receive the shifting flows of investment and promote new growth drivers so as to offset the negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to the meeting, PM Phuc inspected the Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port, the Phuoc An Bridge construction project and a US$1.35 billion project of the Korean company Hyosung in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
